Is it safe to put a glass splashback behind a gas hob?

With multiple pots and pans on the go while cooking any given meal, a kitchen can quickly become a hot and hectic space. When you’re constantly using a heat source like a hob for long periods of time, whether it’s a gas or electric hob, it’s important to ensure the area is safe.

This means that kitchen splashbacks should be manufactured from a heat-resistant material, like toughened glass. Other options like acrylic splashbacks or mirror panels won’t be able to endure high temperatures without warping the way a toughened glass kitchen splashback can.

That said, prolonged direct exposure to a heat source can still damage the surface of toughened glass. It’s therefore important to ensure there’s a gap of at least 10cm between the bottom edge (where the kitchen splashback meets the worktop) and the nearest edge of the gas hob.

How are glass kitchen splashbacks mounted on the wall?

When their glass splashback features a printed image, customers usually don’t want to ruin the quality by screwing the panel to the kitchen wall, because this means adding holes for the screws and being able to see them at the corners.

That’s why we offer the option to purchase a silicone adhesive when placing your order, which can be used to stick kitchen splashbacks directly to walls without a fuss. All you need to do to prepare the surface is make sure it’s smooth and clean.

This means you don’t have to drill into any walls or have any fixings on show. However, if you would rather fix your glass splashback to the wall like this anyway, there is also the option to order a pack of four screws for delivery along with your kitchen splashback.

It’s important to note that if you do want to use screws, you must speak to our team to request that we pre-drill the holes for you, as the glass cannot be cut after it has already been made to order and gone through the toughening process.

Do you offer a colour-matching service for kitchen splashbacks?

We can produce custom printed glass splashbacks in a variety of sizes and shapes, allowing you to choose an image of your own in any colour you like.

However, while we can help you create bespoke splashbacks with printed images using this order building tool, we cannot colour-match from an image file if you would like a made-to-measure kitchen splashback in a specific colour.

If you would like a glass splashback in a single colour, we do offer a colour-matching option for our painted glass splashbacks, which are back-painted in the same shade all over. This allows us to colour-match your kitchen splashback using colour codes from standardised systems like RAL, Pantone, and Dulux.

This is a great way to create a cohesive kitchen design if you want to match your décor with a consistent palette throughout the space!

Of course, the more bespoke your panels are, the higher the price will be, but you can always contact us for a custom quote before placing an order.

What makes glass splashbacks better than acrylic splashbacks?

Maybe you’ve seen that acrylic splashbacks are often cheaper and quicker to buy than glass splashbacks, but it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for. A single-colour acrylic sheet isn’t a heat-proof material, so it won’t have the improved durability and visual appeal of colourful printed glass.

While they both have a wide range of uses and smooth surfaces that are easy to clean, the basic plastic appearance of acrylic splashbacks simply doesn’t compare to the elegant style of painted or printed glass panels with polished edges.
