Want to enjoy the benefits of a glass balcony without having to build one? Juliet balconies offer a cost-effective way to transform an upper-storey opening into a faux balcony, so you can experience the fresh breeze and sunlight without stepping outside!

Glass Juliet Balcony Systems

A Juliet balcony is created with the installation of a safety barrier across a full-length window or glass door, which you can access whenever you want to stand or sit by the balustrade and enjoy the outdoor ambience from the comfort of indoors.

Here at The Glass Warehouse, we supply a range of toughened laminated glass Juliet balconies, which are available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses.

Glass Juliet Balconies

Modern Juliet balcony systems take advantage of clear glass balustrades to maximise the view, helping you to feel closer to nature without compromising on safety or durability.

Installing a stylish glass and steel balcony across an upper floor opening helps to bring more light and air into the room, making the window the centre of attention on the inside and creating a picture of elegant luxury on the outside – even from a distance.

While conventional iron railings have their own charm, there’s no denying the impressive appearance of glass balustrades with steel or aluminium fixings. Why not create your own modern architectural feature for a competitive price with one of our Juliet balconies?

Whether you prefer the frameless look with offset fittings, slim profiles in anodised steel-effect silver or matt black aluminium, or a top rail for extra reassurance, we offer all of these options for affordable prices here at The Glass Warehouse.

Our Juliet balconies come in a range of standard sizes and glass thicknesses, but if you can’t find the exact dimensions you need, please get in touch with our team to discuss custom sizes and request a quote for a bespoke Juliet balcony.

As a trusted UK manufacturer of toughened glass products, our glass panels can be supplied in almost any length, width, or shape your project may require for a tailored price. Our products are made to order on-site at our Essex workshop, with kerbside delivery across the UK.

To discuss ordering a Juliet glass balcony, call us on 020 8500 1188 or send an email to info@theglasswarehouse.co.uk and we will be happy to help you find the best solution.

Can you stand on a Juliet balcony?

No – you can’t step out onto a Juliet balcony, because it doesn’t have an external platform that projects from the building. This is why, though it’s commonly known as a balcony, the official term for it is a Juliet guarding – because it’s essentially a guard rail.

Rather than providing outdoor floor space, Juliet balconies work by transforming upper-floor window openings into a multi-purpose feature, which allows you to feel as though you are standing/sitting on or looking out from a balcony without it actually being one.

While this means you won’t have any outdoor floor space, you can still make the most of a Juliet balcony from inside the room (which also means you won’t have to worry about bringing furnishings indoors when the weather is bad!).

So, although they technically aren’t full balconies that can be walked on, you can still stand at the barrier and look out to catch the breeze or survey the landscape.

With a Juliet balcony drawing the eye to the outdoors, this area is sure to become the centre of attention in any upper-storey living room, bedroom, or home office!

What are the benefits of Juliet balconies?

Juliet balconies bring to mind the dramatic romance of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, from which they take their name. Across Europe, a Juliet balcony traditionally features wrought iron railings, but these days, a glass balcony with or without a steel top rail is the favoured look.

Thanks to the modern elegance of toughened laminated glass, our striking Juliet balcony systems are sure to elevate your home or business with a sense of sophistication.

Using clear glass for the balcony balustrade not only provides protection against the drop between floor levels but also dramatically improves aesthetic appeal, creating a chic façade from the outside and enhancing interior design from the inside.

The minimalist glass and metal materials can fit in with most décor schemes to suit your property both indoors and out, guaranteeing an eye-catching feature.

At The Glass Warehouse, the systems we supply are available with stainless steel or anodised aluminium fittings. The latter can be customised with an RAL matt finish in black, white, or grey.

Not only are glass Juliet balconies compact, beautiful, and durable, but they also require less time and work to install – meaning they can transform your property much faster, for a lower cost. Giving you better access to fresh air and natural light with less effort!

Whether you have financial or spatial constraints limiting your renovation choices, a Juliet guarding can provide the perfect solution for an affordable and space-saving balcony.

Do Juliet balconies need planning permission?

As Juliet balconies don’t feature an external platform and typically don’t require extra structural alterations, they’re usually classed as permitted developments. This means you most likely shouldn’t need to ask your local authority for approval before installing a glass Juliet balcony.

Unlike traditional projecting balconies, Juliet balconies shouldn’t need planning permission – as long as they have no platform, extend outwards less than 300mm from the wall, and aren’t located on the principal elevation (the front of the building) with privacy concerns.

However, it’s always worth double-checking, because there are some conditions where a Juliet balcony might still require planning permission – and if you proceeded to install the balcony without approval, you could be fined and asked to remove it.

If you’re making structural changes to install the balcony, such as making a window larger or converting it into a door, you may need approval from the local authorities first to make sure you’re complying with local development and national safety regulations.

Please note that it will be your responsibility as a customer to make sure that your Juliet balcony installation complies with British Safety Standards and planning permission requirements, as The Glass Warehouse only supplies your order as specified by you.
